Position is currently available for a Laboratory Manager within the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. The ideal candidate should have experience with lab management, management of mouse colonies, mouse genotyping using PCR and gel electrophoresis. Experience with standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques is highly desired including Western Blot, DNA-gel electrophoresis, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, co-immunoprecipitation, ELISA, cell transfection, etc. Prior work with mouse models of disease and genotyping of mice is preferred. Experience in performing tail vein and IV injections in mice are highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written skills, attention to detail and precise record keeping is expected. Cell culture experience, including human and rodent endothelial cells is highly appreciated. Duties include management of mouse colony and genotyping, running biochemical assay, management of lab supplies lab equipment and detailed record keeping.
Main Duties:
1. Manage mice colonies, breeding according to investigators' needs, caring for animals and maintaining their health and well-being.
2. Perform wide variety of biomolecular assays including western blot, PCR, immunoprecipitation, cell culture, ELISA and immunoassay if needed.
3. Perform complex animal procedures including tail snips and blood collection for genotyping and other more advanced genotyping techniques.
4. Provide weekly reports on size and status of each colony, assisting in reconciling animal-related accounts, and other duties as assigned.
5. Management of lab supplies including reagents and mice. Management of IACUC protocols including modification and submission of new protocols.
Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
Process data and use computer keyboard. Accurate visual recognition of small samples and repetitive pipetting; handling mice requires accurate eye to hand coordination, excellent visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must be very organized and be able to keep a database for mouse colonies, biological specimens, reagents, chemicals, etc. Must be able to reach/stack consumables on shelves. |
This position will require standing, kneeling, bending for long periods of time and/or walking for extending periods (if resources need to be accessed at other University labs offices, and collaborating office locations).
