SA-TECH supports a dynamic U.S. Navy Directorate specializing in design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for its DoD clients. We provide full spectrum Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support of various combatant craft, patrol boats, Special Operations Forces platforms and coastal craft, ensuring performance and fleet readiness.


We are currently looking to hire a Technical Instructor/Writer/Course Developer for our Combatant Craft Division at Naval Station Norfolk, VA. The Technical Instructor/Course Developer is primarily responsible for curriculum revision and maintenance. Technical curriculum may involve electronics, welding, or more highly technical areas such as radio and electronics repair or operation of weapons systems. This employee uses a computer to organize and draft a curriculum that breaks a complex subject into blocks or units of instruction, creates graphics, and integrates them into curriculum. Courses may be instructor based, computer-based, simulator based, interactive, or non-interactive. This position also teaches short technical courses in accordance with approved curriculum to maintain proficiency and to evaluate and develop new instructional techniques/courses.


The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned as well):

  • Support development of technical work instructions, standard operating procedures, command policies, training support packages, personnel qualification standards, and other additional operational, procedural, quality, or training documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and external customers to define requirements for new documentation, revise existing documentation, and provide configuration management for technical document library.

Work Conditions:

  • May be required to work first shift (0700-1530) or second shift (0830-1700).
  • Work will be performed in enclosed buildings.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, light lifting, and reaching.
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience in technical writing for military operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior military Master Training Specialist (MST) qualification preferred.
  • Maritime military experience in Navy or Coast Guard operations highly desired.
  • Prior experience creating standard operating procedures, training curriculum, safety policies, and technical work instructions highly desired.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
