The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine is located in the Van Nuys Medical Science Building on the IU Indianapolis campus. The department is home to 26 tenure-track faculty and 14 research-track faculty engaged in a wide range of research areas, including the biochemical and molecular basis of cancer, diabetes, obesity, neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, and alcoholism.
Prospective candidates are invited to submit their application for a Research Technician position in the laboratory of Dr. Kirk Staschke located in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Staschke's research focuses on developing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for prostate cancer. We utilize a broad range of experimental systems to model tumor progression and metastasis, such as mouse models including genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs), orthotopic prostate models, cell line-derived and patient-derived xenograft models, organoid models, as well as 2D and 3D cell culture models to study broad aspects of prostate cancer biology.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Manages animal colonies, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping of animals.
Performs minor animal surgery including castration, tumor fragment implantation, and orthotopic implants.
Manages dosing of animals with experimental compounds such as oral and IP.
Performs necropsies to collect mouse tissues for analysis.
Performs IHC staining of mouse and human tissue samples.
Performs mammalian cell culture.
Performs molecular biology experiments including, DNA subcloning, DNA, RNA, and protein sample preparation, qRT-PCR, and Western blotting techniques.
May help plan experiments or short-term goals.
Assists with the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Maintains accurate records in electronic notebooks.
General Responsibilities
Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
May train junior-level staff.
May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
