Job Description
Primary Function of Position

The Future Forward group within Intuitive Surgical is searching for a Sr. Vision System Engineer to help design the illumination system for a novel robotic surgical platform. As an early member of the team, this role is an exciting opportunity to help define the eventual product from early prototypes through clinical trials and into product launch.

Essential Job Duties

As part of the New Product Development team, the engineer will work with team members to:

• Define, narrow down, and select architectures for the new platform illumination system


• Translate clinical requirements and user needs to functional designs and technical specifications


• Build mathematical models to simulate the overall system performance and enable design tradeoffs and performance predictions


• Optimize light sources to maximize image quality in typical surgical scenes


• Develop new illumination techniques to enhance image quality and enable new imaging modalities


• Define requirements and budgets for components and susbsystems to achieve the overall performance, including:
  
  
  • Lens and illumination uniformity
  
  
  • Optical fiber
  
  
  • Light engine
  
  
  • Illumination controls
  
  
  
  

• Work with vendors and internal suppliers to specify, assemble, and test early prototypes and use result to improve next round of designs


• Generate design concepts for next generation endoscopic devices

Qualifications
Skills and Experience

• Minimum BS in relevant engineering or scientific discipline


• Minimum 5 years experience designing complex opto- or electro-mechanical assemblies


• Solid background in imaging systems, sensors, and optics


• Hands-on experience assembling and testing illumination systems


• Proven ability to work well with others


• Good documentation skills

Base Salary Range Region 1: $143,500 USD - $206,500 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $122,000 USD - $175,600 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
