Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor, Full-time, Third Shift, Emergency Room

The Clinical Shift Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will provide input on staff evaluations and complete evaluations for their regular staff cohort. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will also assist with cost containment, and manage all employees to do the same. The position requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum of two to four years of clinical experience in area of clinical specialty.
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor staff. Promote staff retention, team building, and collaboration. Facilitate ongoing staff professional growth.
  • Maintain staffing and scheduling responsibilities.
  • Manage operational leadership of shift including patient flow and assignment/adjustment of resources to meet dynamic changing needs throughout the shift.
  • Function as a clinical resource for area of clinical specialty. Promote the use of evidence-based practice, and assist in identifying and operationalizing best practices in the unit.
  • Demonstrate efficiency through the appropriate use of resources or supplies to support timely and effective delivery of patient care. Identify needs for specific equipment and ensure adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Engage in the new hire process, including overseeing specific staff orientation to maintain established standards of care and to ensure competency.
  • Participate in the corrective action process by providing immediate counseling for staff and writing up incidents when specific behaviors or events negatively affect patient care or the general work environment.
  • Assist with developing and revising departmental standards, policies, and procedures. Actively identifying opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction, quality of patient care, and staff performance.
  • Ensure shift practice complies with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA and House Bill 316).
  • Ensure staff compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and accreditation and licensing regulations.
  • Maintain hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and complete annual competencies in the required time frame.
