The Hanlon Financial Systems Lab has several openings for lab assistants. The positions are open to currently enrolled students at Stevens.

The position requirements include:


  • Assisting the Hanlon Lab operations (hardware, software, and databases)

  • Providing support for students and faculty using the Lab (courses and events)

  • Contributing to various research or web projects

  • Exceptional learning ability of the complex systems operating in the Hanlon Lab

  • Excellent oral and writing skills

  • Availability to work 10-20 hours / week including several weekends during the semester.

There are 3 lab assistant tracks:


  • Financial Databases

  • Web, Media, and Communications

  • Servers

Qualifications

A background in one or more of the following areas: Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics is required.

Financial Databases Skills (at least 2 of the following):


  • Financial instruments datasets query/retrieval/processing experience (Bloomberg, WRDS, Capital IQ, Quantmod, etc.)

  • Database language knowledge such as SQL variants (MySQL, WinSQL, PostgreSQL), Oracle, NoSQL variants, or Hadoop.

  • Programming languages (C++, C#, JAVA, Python, etc.)

  • Statistical and Financial Software (R, Matlab, Mathematica, R, SAS, Tableau, Stata, etc.)

  • API development

Web, Media, and Communications Skills (at least 2 of the following):


  • Proficiency in front-end technologies and frameworks such as HTML & Bootstrap, Javascript & Node.js

  • Create storyboards, scripts, multimedia, narration, graphics, and animations.

  • Responsible for video production and post-production audio and video editing.

  • Interview Research Teams and produce short videos.

  • Assisting the Hanlon Lab operations

  • Excellent oral and writing skills

Servers Skills (at least 2 of the following):


  • Maintain and develop applications for storage, computational, and virtual servers.

  • Participate in lab projects involving server/client development.

  • Excellent programming skills.

  • OS administration (Windows, Linux)

  • Cover letter (maximum 1 page) that specifies your background / knowledge / skills relevant for the position. Please make sure that you include specific details related to your prior experience. Indicate the lab assistant track selected for your application: (Financial Databases), (Web, Media, and Communications), (Servers).

If you are applying for Web, Media and Communication track, please include a short sample of writing that describes a personal learning experience at Stevens and how it helped your future development.

Please do not mention skills for which you do not have a working knowledge.
