Overview

The Assistant Controller is responsible for executing accounting processes to ensure financial statements are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

Roles & Responsibilities


  • Participate in month-end close process
  • Create monthly detailed close schedule and ensure completeness by various parties
  • Analyze and prepare adjusting journal entries
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Generate, balance and distribute month-end reports
  • Investigate and resolve accounting issues
  • Assist in preparing materials for annual external audit and quarterly reviews
  • Provide support on various special projects (process improvements, corporate initiatives, etc.)
  • Assist in the integration of newly acquired companies
  • Prepare cash flow information for monthly financial reporting
  • Obtain knowledge in various departments (AP, AR, Payroll, etc.) and support processes in each area
  • Ensure SOX compliance in all activities performed
  • Assist in preparing materials for annual SOX audit
  • Involved with month-end and annual inventory activities (physical adjustments, reconciliations, obsolescence and standard cost review)
  • Analyze detailed and high-level accounting data
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations of senior and staff accountants
  • Prepare financial statements for review by the controller
  • Responsible for financial reporting SOX compliance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience (public accounting experience preferred)
  • CPA certification or CPA eligible
  • Results-oriented, self-starter, flexibility, problem solver
  • Outstanding time management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong investigation and follow-up skills; attention to detail
  • Strong customer service orientation with a high energy level
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide cross section of individuals
  • Ability to work under pressure of strict deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a professional manner

Physical Requirements:

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, computer terminal and keyboard, facsimile, calculator, and understands computer basics. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
