Overview

The Monitoring Data Analyst, Enterprise Performance Monitoring team, reports to the Director, Enterprise Performance Monitoring & Security and is responsible for the preparation, interpretation, and visualization of enterprise performance and security monitoring data and metrics. This position will leverage monitoring tools to provide reporting and analysis to improve the monitoring and security of critical and large-scale networking, enterprise systems, and cloud and on-premises applications to enable successful University research, academic, and enterprise activities with minimal unplanned interruptions and appropriate levels of security. The Monitoring Data Analyst works collaboratively with all departments in the Office of Information Technology and other University stakeholders to provide actionable and beneficial insights for reviewing and preserving current usage patterns and developing trending and forecasting models to aid in future service planning and decision-making efforts.



Responsibilities

  • Develop and design the reports and dashboards for data analysis of enterprise monitoring technologies to support faculty, students, and staff to reliably use a variety of IT services and applications, both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Define and implement processes and services to ensure all IT services can leverage beneficial reports and dashboards for performance, reliability, reachability and availability.
  • Analyze performance and security data to identify trending and forecasting improvements to recommend corrective actions and process improvements for service owners.
  • Assist technical staff with the creation of actionable dashboards and reports for key performance metrics, security detections, and logging analysis.
  • Collaborate with University stakeholders, vendors, and IT staff to define and implement enterprise-level monitoring and security report and dashboard requirements.
  • Integrate monitoring reporting solutions with ITSM services for incident, request and event management.
  • Research and evaluate new and emerging monitoring and security reporting and dashboarding solutions for supporting research, teaching, and enterprise applications.
  • Provide data analysis regular operational reviews, including performance reporting and continuous improvement processes, for all monitoring services to ensure monitoring tools are being fully utilized for their capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and reports on monitoring and IT security infrastructure topics.
  • Maintain and improve reporting and dashboarding services for monitoring of all systems, applications and critical infrastructure.
  • Provide programming and scripting support for automating and improving the reporting and dashboarding capabilities of enterprise monitoring services.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance, and routinely collaborate with University departments and OIT teams on any issues, projects, and initiatives involving reporting and dashboarding needs.
  • Define key performance indicators for supported services including availability, reachability and reliability measures.
  • Maintain knowledgebase articles, documentation, protocols and procedures related to monitoring reporting and dashboarding services.
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships including participation in community user groups, roadmap planning, and ensuring support processes are fully utilized.
  • When provided access to personal, proprietary and/or otherwise confidential data, maintain such data in the strictest confidence and follow procedures to ensure the privacy, security and proper use of data.
  • Ensure compliance with asset, change, incident, and problemmanagementprocessesand policies.
  • Participate in professional development and training courses to continuously improve enterprise monitoring skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to share and improve monitoring services.
  • Participate in leadership and diversity opportunities to improve OIT services.


Qualifications

Essential Quailifcations:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with enterprise-class infrastructure systems or hands-on experience as a business systems or data analyst
  • Proven track record of delivering and maintaining monitoring and IT security systems through all life-cycle
  • Strong experience with reporting and dashboarding tools and services
  • Strong experience with design and development of monitoring services
  • Aptitude for learning and sharing knowledge, and the ability to build strong working relationships with IT colleagues, University colleagues from other departments, and vendors.
  • Very good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond promptly and professionally to customer requests.
  • Experience with statistical methodologies.
  • Experience with data cleaning, transformations, and integrations
  • Proven experience with work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Experience with firewalls and file integrity checking systems.
  • Demonstrated successes working in a collaborative environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to learn new technologies beyond core area of knowledge and to stay current with the latest data analysis, monitoring and security infrastructure trends
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse customer base having varied levels of technical proficiencies.
  • Proactive approach to seeking information and ideas from peers, supervisors, and members of the Princeton community.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming experience including Python, R, and SQL
  • Presentation experience including Tableau, Power BI
  • Working knowledge of throughput, latency, memory and CPU utilization
  • Working knowledge of operating system design/tuning (e.g. Linux, Windows)
  • Working knowledge of database tuning and administration (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL)
  • Experience with firewalls and file integrity checking systems
  • Experience in validating the performance of multi-tier applications
  • Experience working in major enterprise IT projects
