The Role:
Our Poco Graphite division located in Decatur, Texas is seeking a Design Engineer to join our team. This role requires a broad understanding of multiple disciplines across different markets and applications. It will involve considerable judgment to work independently towards creating customer designs and products. The Design Engineer will devise new or adapt existing methods, techniques and procedures to meet customer requirements. The Design Engineer will interface directly with customers, other functions, and other engineers within the team.
What You’ll Do:
Creates designs based on inputs from customers which may be drawings, concepts, specifications, and other requirements. Has a broad material understanding as well as applications experience within semiconductor or other high technology industries
Identifies IP opportunities within the scope of NPD and will work with the IP committee to bring new IPs to fruition and to evaluate current technologies within the portfolio
Interacts with senior company personnel; develops and maintains broad global internal and external network
Authors and presents results as applications notes or conference presentations
Initiates engagement with external customers to discuss data collection/sharing opportunities
Creates project plans and tracks progress for larger projects (e.g. breakthrough or large platform projects)
Creates budget and tracks spending for new projects and assignments
Anticipates and addresses issues proactively
Mentors and may provide work direction or review the work of lower-level personnel
Negotiates, influences, and manages through difficult situations
Develop new techniques to increase efficiency in design, and reverse engineering through the development and validation of tools used in a high-tech prototype development lab setting.
Works with limited direction. Normally receives general guidance on new projects or assignments. Work is not evaluated upon completion except as it applies to ensuring that objectives were met
What We Seek:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years’ experience preferred or MS in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years’ experience
Materials understanding
Applications knowledge of glass handling, semiconductor, or high-tech industries such as optics
Experience with DOE methodologies/tools
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with Solidworks
Proven team player skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to work on projects in a cross-functional manner
Ability to research, identify, and gain access to decision makers, and gain insight through targeted questioning and active listening
Experience in working in an ISO 9000/14000 environment a plus;
Candidate must have the capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control law
