We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sr Automation Engineer with robust Siemens PCS7 knowledge to join our dynamic and fearless team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of quality in our engineering and automation projects. As a Sr Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the Automation & Controls team in designing and implementing innovative outcome-based solutions for our market-leading enterprise customers. We’re looking for someone to join the team with deep plant wide automation and controls integration experience.



Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on estimating and proposal phase of major projects including research and analysis based on customer proposals, specifications, or other information to assist in pre-project planning.
  • Design automation systems based on partner or customer provided control descriptions, joint-design sessions with partners or customers, analysis of existing operations or other means to develop functional design.
  • Develop well-documented and flexible PLC code in a standard programming language from blank sheet state.
  • Design and develop HMIs that are professional looking and clean, with a simple and common navigation structure.
  • Work with other team members, partners, or customers as needed to oversee or share design and development responsibilities to deliver successful projects, often working on multiple projects at one time.
  • Develop solutions to support testing and commissioning activities as required, including supervision of other team members and partners.
  • Responsible for the communication, implementation, and enforcement of Gray’s safety program on site; Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications

  • Applicable candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science or relevant experience in industrial automation; 7 or more years of experience.
  • Responsibilities include design, development, and implementation of PLC/HMI based control and automation systems for various customers. Candidates must possess the skills to manage and implement industrial projects from design through commissioning using current technology.
  • Must have excellent PLC (Siemens PCS7 strongly preferred) programming skills or a strong background with DCS platforms, such as DeltaV, Foxboro/Schneider, or Honeywell. They must also have strong HMI programming skills in either the Rockwell RSView platform or Ignition. Knowledge of other automation platforms, including offerings from Wonderware, GE, etc. is preferred.
  • Applicable candidates should have experience in standard project management practices, including project scope, budget, goals, technical and functional requirements. Scope and budget balance with customer needs and expectations from design through commissioning and long-term support.
  • Candidates should be able to complete projects without help from others but may also be responsible for managing multiple projects, vendors, customer relationships and larger teams. They may be responsible for developing the technical skills of junior engineers.
  • The position will include customer and vendor interaction at a functional and technical level, candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Travel is a regular expectation of this role and depends upon the location of projects and customers, the stage of project execution, and your role in the project. Travel may also be required for annual company meetings and some training.
  • Project-based travel to customer sites and team check-ins can range 15-25% during the design phase, 0-10% during the implementation phase, and 30-60% during installment and commissioning phases.

Salary

The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $105,000 to $135,000.
