Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Emergency Management, Campus Safety, and Environmental Health and Safety and working closely with colleagues within the Dean of the College Division and partnering with other Divisions around campus, the Director of Transportation is responsible for directing and supervising the transportation operations at Colgate University by managing staff and drivers to maintain the University vehicle fleet and transportation schedules.
The director is responsible for overseeing all transportation-related operations within the institution. This role involves strategic planning, managing transportation resources, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, enhancing the overall transportation experience for the campus community, and ensuring the efficient and safe transportation of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The director provides regular training and guidance to staff and maintains detailed records of vehicle repair records.
Responsibilities include:
Strategic Planning
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement long-term transportation strategies aligning with the institution's goals, considering sustainability, efficiency, and evolving transportation needs.
Operational Management
Demonstrated ability to direct daily transportation operations, including fleet management, scheduling, maintenance, and supervision of transportation staff.
Fleet Management
Demonstrated ability to oversee the maintenance of vehicles, ensuring they meet safety standards and are operational at all times.
Technology Integration
Explores and implements innovative transportation technologies, such as GPS tracking systems, to enhance efficiency, safety, and operational efficiency.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Fosters partnerships with various campus departments, student riders, student organizations, local authorities, transportation vendors, and community stakeholders to enhance /improve transportation services, address concerns, and develop strategic partnerships.
Policy Development
Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and implement transportation policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and the institution's values (e.g., sustainability). Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal transportation regulations and guidelines.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Collects and analyzes transportation data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and efficiency measures. Prepares regular reports.

Must be able to comply with NYS DMV CDL requirements.
