The Eastern Ozarks Fire and Stewardship Coordinator's primary work location will be in Carter County, Missouri, but they will also assist in efforts on other natural areas in the eastern Ozarks and at times in other parts of the state. Mill Creek Preserve is an anchor location in the eastern Ozarks and is designated as a TNC Center for Conservation Innovation (CCI). This position will require strategic thinking, communications, and planning skills as well as the ability to work well with a team to establish and expand this location for science and stewardship efforts. Duties will include coordinating with conservation partners; leading seasonal and volunteer work teams to conduct prescribed fire, invasive species control, and habitat enhancement and restoration, tool and equipment maintenance, infrastructure repairs; and management planning for TNC preserves, state/federal lands, and priority private lands throughout southeast Missouri. Familiarity with various types of equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, larger pick-up trucks, tractors, trailers, fire equipment such as drip torches, water tanks, pumps, and herbicide handling equipment such as backpack and UTV-mounted spray tanks is required.
The Eastern Ozarks Fire and Stewardship Coordinator will be TNC's representative in this region, working with private landowners, partners, and community stakeholders to engage them in conservation. They are expected to work together with conservation partners to set/assist in management goals/objectives and direct work teams to achieve those goals. The Coordinator will assist with the implementation of prescribed fire, mop-up and monitoring needs. They will consistently be increasing fire line leadership skills and qualifications over time towards the goal of becoming an NWCG RxB2 (Burn Boss). The Coordinator should also be trained on the safe application of herbicides to control invasive/non-native species and/or woody species that are impairing natural systems.

Salary range: $40,000-45,000, commensurate with experience.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $40,000 - $45,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
