The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, as well as the protection of the environment within our manufacturing plant. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health and safety programs and procedures to comply with regulatory requirements and company policies. Here you will make an impact by:


  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate control measures.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate workplace hazards.

  • Provide training and education to employees on health and safety practices, emergency response procedures, and regulatory compliance.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to health and safety activities, including incident reports, training records, and safety data sheets (SDS).

  • Stay updated on emerging health and safety regulations and industry best practices, and proactively implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.

  • Conduct risk assessments and participate in the development of emergency response plans and business continuity strategies.

  • Collaborate with external agencies, such as regulatory bodies and auditors, to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

  • Foster a culture of safety by promoting awareness, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in engineering from an accredited institution

  • Three (3) years of environmental health & safety engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Three (3+) years of experience in manufacturing

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are preferred

  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal health and safety regulations

  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, with a focus on environmental health and safety

  • Proficient in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees and collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and mitigate workplace hazards

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

  • Proficient in using health and safety software and tools for data management and reporting

Plant/Facility: Various Locations within the US

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
