Job Summary
The Sr Staff Geologist is in a small, focused, geotechnical team charged with influencing and executing Murphy's Exploration portfolio and assisting with other business units as required.
The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who is comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must have demonstrated broad expertise in both integrated petroleum systems analysis as well as Petroleum Geochemistry. The candidate must be proficient in fundamental regional geologic analysis to generate, mature, assess and recommend new and creative exploration and new access concepts for recommendation.
They will have a clear record of varied technical exposure to many global basins, depositional systems, and petroleum systems.
While the candidate is expected to work independently and within small teams, successful collaboration across various domains, exploration, sub-surface, and business development, is crucial. Fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration often leads to innovative solutions and robust evaluations.
The successful candidate will be a recognized expert within Murphy, with a strong network in the wider Industry. They will play a pivotal role by providing both formal and informal technical input across a diverse range of Murphy projects. As a leader, they will exemplify best practices in exploration processes and actively drive technical excellence throughout the organization.
The Sr Staff Geologist will openly and willingly mentor and coach less experienced staff, attend and participate in peer assists/ reviews, and work with management to define processes around project QA/QC and due diligence.
A firm understanding of geologic models for resource estimation and risk application utilizing statistical software such as RoseRA is required. Additional beneficial skills include a demonstrated proficiency in Zetaware software, other 3D basin modelling tools, the Kingdom interpretation platform, and a familiarity with Petrel.
The candidate will need to present to senior Murphy Management and represent the company in meetings with external partners and government entities. Therefore, a demonstrated ability to construct a compelling narrative, document findings, and create concise supporting presentation to clearly convey recommendations is essential.
Responsibilities
Basin-Scale Regional Evaluations are grounded in an understanding of the Hydrocarbon System, by integrating basin scale seismic interpretation and well log information, geochemical data and generating fully integrated basin models.
