Overview

We are seeking a full-time RF Design Engineer located in our Olathe, KS office. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing electronic circuits, equipment and systems for Garmin's Aviation products.

Essential Functions


  • Ability to use advanced RF Simulation tools, design and build RF designs, and iterate RF simulation and physical design to achieve performance agreement.

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to implement basic RF design elements: Filters (distributed and lumped), transmission lines, Matching Structures, Small Signal Gain elements, Large Signal Design.

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to use RF design concepts: Smith Chart, S-parameters, VSWR, Quality Factor "Q", Linearity (P1dB, IP3), Cumulative Noise Figure, Techniques for accounting for RF parasitics.

  • Understand signal processing concepts: Transfer Functions, RF Design for Sampled Systems, Modulation Types, Correlation Implementations (GPS, RADAR, etc...).

  • Prepare or direct preparation of product layouts, detailed drawings and schematics.

  • Direct and coordinate manufacture of prototypes.

  • Plan and develop experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines.

  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications.

  • Support production facilities in the manufacture of products.

  • Interface with the Test Engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of the products.

  • Perform cost/performance tradeoff analysis of different circuit options.

  • Complete documentation of the design in the required formats

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to design and develop moderately complex analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation

  • Demonstrated ability with electrical engineering tools

  • Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability

Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)

  • Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
