Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach, Olympic Sports at University of Oklahoma

Job Description:

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department is seeking a qualified and passionate Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our team. This is a 12-month full-time position that will directly report to the Director of Olympic Sports. This position will support the student athletes and enhance the mission of the University of Oklahoma, the Athletics Department, and Strength staff. Individual will be responsible for developing and implementing sports specific training programs for individuals and group settings for sports assigned.


Duties:



  • Current sport assignments – Track and Field

  • Research, develop, design, implement and administer comprehensive yearlong sport specific training programs for student athletes with event coach collaboration

  • Work closely with Nutrition, Psychological resources, and athletic training to create tailored programs consistent with individual student athlete's needs, restrictions, and other needs

  • Work Closely with medical staff in the rehabilitation of athletic and assist with the decision-making process to reinstate athletes to practice and competition

  • Provide written and verbal reports to supervisors, coaches, medical staff, and nutrition

  • Provide support to Director of Olympic Sports Enhancement with each facet of the Strength and conditioning program, as well as other duties assigned

  • Assist strength and conditioning unit with program planning and implementation, testing, and data entry

  • Daily maintenance of the facility

  • Participate and present topics at scheduled professional development meetings

  • Assist in the professional development of younger staff, graduate students, and student interns

Required Education: Bachelor's degree from accredited University or College preferably in a health- related field, AND:



  • 24 months experience as a college or professional strength coach.


Certifications:



  • CPR, First Aid & AED Certification

  • CSCS or CSCC Certification

  • Excellent leadership, people management, and interpersonal skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must possess a demonstrated track record of developing collaborative relationships with both internal and external persons.

  • Ability to develop, implement, adjust, and evaluate comprehensive strength & conditioning program

  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, coaches and administrators

  • Ability to recognize potential health risk of student athletes

  • Ability and willingness to engage in continuing education and maintaining professional and health and safety certifications

  • Ability and willingness to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations

  • Proficient in educating student-athletes on safe and effective performance, training and recovery


Advertised Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to climb, crouch, reach, bend, stand, engage in repetitive motions, communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others

  • Must be able to explain and demonstrate proper movement patterns and lifting techniques as needed

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold


Departmental Preferences:



  • Experience in power five conference as a full time strength coach

  • Masters degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field

  • Experience working with a variety of sports, student athletes, and diverse populations

  • Experience/knowledge of assigned sports

  • Working Knowledge of University, Conference, and NCAA regulations 


Supervision: Graduate Assistants and Interns
