Job Details:

The Communication Studies and Theatre Department at Mercer University is seeking a Lecturer/Technical Director.


Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for managing production needs and providing course instruction. Educational management and supervision of student workers with scenic construction, as well as mentorship of student creative research are essential components of this job.

For Mercer Theatre Program productions, the Lecturer/Technical Director will be responsible for maintaining a safe and educational working environment during the entire production process. The primary responsibility is construction and realization of scenic designs. Building management and equipment maintenance of our 90 seat black box theatre which includes tracking and maintaining lighting, sound, projection, and tool equipment inventory is also included in this position. Design responsibilities are negotiated show by show based on student research requirements, the demands of the show, and faculty interest.

For the Communication Studies and Theatre Department, the Lecturer/Technical Director will be responsible for teaching one course a semester in Stagecraft, Introduction to Theatre, or other area of expertise based on the needs of the department and college. Other additional opportunities to teach outside of the department may become available after the first year of employment.

Qualifications:

A masters (or higher) in fine arts in Technical Direction or related field in theatre is required, along with at least two years of professional experience. Candidates must have strong carpentry skills, experience with sound and projection equipment, and a working knowledge of Vectorworks, Qlab, and Microsoft Office are required. Ability to work with students from varied backgrounds, desire to work as a member of a collaborative collegiate team, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Knowledge of different prop construction, scenic painting, and mixed media techniques as well as experience teaching at the college level a plus. Job requires the ability to lift 25-50lbs on a regular basis.
