Min T/E Requirements:


Master’s degree strongly preferred in Higher Education or related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, college access, and major trends and issues faced by Native American student populations.
At least two years of experience working directly with Native American students (e.g. tribes, community organizations, educational settings, etc.).
Direct experience developing and implementing programs that support Native American students from an intersectional framework.
Demonstrated experience working with Native American communities, especially tribal communities in North Carolina.
Computer literacy knowledge and ability to utilize office equipment and computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, and social media)
Expertise in delivering program and education services to diverse populations
Ability to acknowledge, affirm and advocate for under-represented groups
Demonstrated experience in the design, development and implementation of curriculum and cultural programs for the Native American student community
Ability to navigate university systems to pull, interpret, and analyze data and adapt programming accordingly
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, public relations, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with Alumni, students, parents, and stakeholders
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:


The Curt and Catherine Locklear American Indian Heritage Center offers programming and initiatives to help improve outreach, retention and graduation rates of American Indian students.



Primary Purpose of Position:


The Program Coordinator oversees programs and services dedicated to supporting an inclusive environment that fosters a sense of belonging for students from diverse Indigenous backgrounds and provides an opportunity to impact the larger university community’s educational experiences. The Program Coordinator will plan and implement initiatives to support the personal, social, and academic development of American Indian students with an understanding of the unique cultural experiences and perspectives of this population. Reporting to the Director of the AIHC, the position will partner with faculty, staff, alumni, and the community to offer culturally relevant and culturally responsive programming that supports American Indian students from matriculation to graduation. The position is grant-funded and time-limited through September 30, 2025. Continuation after this date is contingent upon funding.



Job Description:


- Utilize national and campus student data specific to Native American and Indigenous populations to develop, implement, and assess services relevant to current educational initiatives and research
- Develop and implement programs, services and initiatives that strengthen Native American and Indigenous student education, using relevant student development theories and practices
- Leads efforts to design, coordinate, manage, execute, and assess large scale campus programs such as Indigenous Peoples Day, American Indian Heritage Month programming, the BraveNation Powwow, and the monthly Indigenous Power Hour series.
- Advocate for Native American and Indigenous students' holistic needs and access appropriate services and resources
- Develop programs which explore Native identity development and provide opportunities to learn about different Indigenous cultures
- Create events and programs based on the needs and feedback of American Indian students (ie: mental health, financial literacy, life skills, leadership skills, etc)
- Create a safe and supportive space for UNCP's American Indian student community
-Develop programming that provides opportunities for non-Native students, faculty, and staff to learn more about Native culture and the heritage of UNCP
-Supervise the AIHC student assistant
- Perform other related duties and participate in committees and special projects as assigned




Note: This is a time-limited, grant-funded position with guaranteed funding through September 30, 2025. An application will be made prior to the end date of the grant to refund the grant.
