HIRING SALARY: $51,003.45 - $55,858.99 annually; all salary calculations to start at the minimum salary

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Campus Police Lieutenant is housed on TCC's Main Campus and reports directly to the Chief of Police. This position will perform work supervising law enforcement operations while assisting and supporting the Chief of Police in every phase of the Department's operation that enhances the success of its mission. This position will serve in the absence of the Chief and be responsible for overall operations in the Chief's absence.




Primary Duties will include, but are not limited to:



  • Assists and supports the Chief of Police in every phase of the Department's operation that enhances the success of its mission. Serves in the absence of the Chief and responsible for overall operations in his absence. Represents the department on College committees and at meetings directed by the Chief of Police. Acts as liaison with national, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies and is responsible for knowledge and direction of Community Oriented Policing on the college campus. Plans and administers the law enforcement and security activities for the Tallahassee Community College Police Department. This includes the satellite facilities in the surrounding counties. Maintains and/or or oversees the scheduling and staffing for all law enforcement and security related functions or requests. Responsibilities include criminal and traffic accident investigation and enforcement, personnel administration, policy development, and program administration. Mentors and develops law enforcement personnel who have the responsibility of life property, and prevention of crime and misconduct, traffic and crowd control, criminal and traffic law enforcement, criminal and traffic accident investigations and community service. Ensures quality of service rendered by supervisors and subordinates and the delivery of police services in accordance with Department and college polices. Evaluates the subordinates under their direct supervision. Reviews reports and other submitted paperwork for accuracy and competency, for criminal and student judicial cases.



  • Assists the Chief of Police with planning, organizing, and directing departmental resources to accomplish the mission of the Police Department. Assists the Chief of Police with developing and implementing policies, analyzes and plans for proper budget utilization, and proper allocation of personnel, supplies, and equipment. Encourages suggestions from both sworn and non-sworn personnel regarding improvements of current rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Coordinates and cooperates with other staff and personnel in the development of procedures to improve operations, technology, morale, discipline, training, and other functions necessary to improve the efficiency of the Department. Conducts inspections on all uniform personnel and supervisory officers and their understanding of compliance with Departmental policies and procedures regarding uniform wear, fair and impartial application of policy with all faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus, and the Canons of police Ethics. Conducts continuous analysis of crime to determine the location, time special characteristics, similarities to other criminal activity and identify any patterns of behavior to implement corrective counter measures.



  • Pursues, apprehends, and arrests law violators or suspected law violators. Conducts surveys and interviews persons in the College community to ensure the availability of information in anticipation of future demands on police and security services. Responds to citizen complaints, and when deemed appropriate, conducts Internal Affairs investigations.



  • Maintains competence in areas of police skills such as firearms, first responder, interpersonal skills, arrest procedures, and use of specialized police equipment.




MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must meet current certification requirements of Chapter 943.13, Florida Statutes for certification as a Florida law enforcement officer and have ten (10) years of progressive experience in sworn law enforcement, three (3) of which must have been in a sergeant, supervisory and/or management capacity. Must possess an associate degree (or obtain within 24 months of appointment), supplemented by extensive experience in police science or administration in a university/college environment.)
