Job Description


The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate 1 to work full-time in the Broward County area. The Research Associate 1 supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.


  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specifics


The ACTION 3 Study and MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) are seeking to fill a Recruiter/Assessor position to work specifically in the Broward County area. Recruiting will include outreach and recruitment efforts for the ACTION3 Study, and the Recruiter will report to the PI, Dr. Deborah Jones (Medical Campus, Miami). The applicant should demonstrate familiarity with the local LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS-affected community. Recruitment and retention efforts will include phone calls to individuals who have participated in studies for the University of Miami and agreed to be contacted for future scientific studies, trips to clinics and community organizations, non-governmental organizations, and non-traditional recreational sites (i.e., street outreach, events) to recruit and promote the study. As the recruiter's duties include going into the field, the successful candidate for this position will be outgoing, motivated, self-directed, and highly professional. The Recruiter will identify creative and effective strategies to achieve a good recruitment of new participants. Duties of the position include active recruiting (finding and approaching potential participants), passive recruiting (posting information about our studies in various places in the community accessible to potential participants), and outreach (community agencies about our studies current, maintain relationships with community partners). Assessing will include baseline assessments for the MWCCS Study, and the Assessor will report to the Project Manager, Adi Mohamed, and the PI, Dr. Deborah Jones. The applicant should be comfortable interviewing on personal topics with diverse participants, and should be able to understand and interpret research protocols and procedures. The applicant will complete education and training on research protocols associated with the studies.



Experience:



  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish (ability to read, write, and speak at a proficient level).

  • Able to work flexible hours and attend occasional off campus events on weekends preferred.

  • Familiarized with the Hispanic and LGBTQ+ communities preferred.

  • HIV-related knowledge or experience in the field preferred

  • Recruitment and interviewing skills

  • Be willing to undergo required training

  • Must adhere to HIPPA and UM HRSO requirements
