Mass Eye and Ear and Mass General Hospital



A full-time position is available in the Faden Laboratory at the Mass Eye and Ear/Mass General and Harvard Medical School. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team of head and neck cancer researchers and clinicians working at the forefront of cancer care and research. This position entails assisting and working closely with the Head and Neck Cancer team in both research and clinical settings. The individual will work closely with the laboratory PI and Staff Scientist to oversee daily functions of the wet lab, clinical specimen collection program and laboratory functions. A major focus of the position will be to help run a new multi-year Academic-Industry collaborative project designed to discover new targets for head and neck cancer drug development. For this project the individual will work alongside a large collaborative group including Clinical Research Coordinators, Medical Students, Post-docs, Surgeons, Medical Oncologists and Radiation Oncologists to oversee all aspects of the project. This position is best suited for highly motivated, meticulous individuals with an interest and experience in cancer studies from both clinical and research perspectives.



Essential Responsibilities and Functions



• Oversees daily functions of the lab


• Oversees daily functions of the specimen collection program


• Maintains IRB and oversees clinical research coordinators


• Maintains and orders lab supplies


• Helps onboard new lab members


• Organizes lab meeting


• Assists with translational sample collections and processing


• Assists in conducting laboratory experiments


• Assists in manuscript writing, preparation and submissions

The Mike Toth Head and Neck Cancer Center is in the Simches Building, Mass. General Hospital, in the Historic Beacon Hill Neighborhood of Boston. Clinical work and interactions will take place at the Mass Eye and Ear/Mass General Hospital complex.


In 2019, MGH and MEE were ranked 2nd in the US News and World Report rankings of Hospitals and 2nd in the rankings of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Departments. The Head and Neck Oncology program at MGH and MEE consists of six head and neck oncologic surgeons, two radiation oncologists, three medical oncologists, two dedicated head and neck pathologists, five dedicated head and neck radiologists and numerous research support staff, seeing 1000 head and neck cancer patients a year. The Mike Toth Head and Neck Cancer Research Center opened in 2019 in the Simches Building at MGH and is a state-of-the-art research center. MGH is home to the largest hospital-based research enterprise in the United State with a budget of $928M and ranks 1st among independent hospitals in the amount of annual funding received from NIH. The research community includes more than 2,000 PIs. At MEE, MGH and MGH Cancer Center, there is a robust scientific community in Head and Neck Cancer and Cancer Research in general. Research coordinators are invited to attend journal clubs, monthly research meetings, weekly clinical trial meeting, weekly tumor board and sample collection meetings. MGH Cancer Center also hosts monthly Grand Rounds, Molecular Tumor Boards, and weekly seminars on a host of cancer research topics.

The Faden Lab develops liquid biopsies to non-invasively screen, diagnose, and monitor head and neck cancers and utilizes these custom assays to answer translational and clinical questions that advance patient care. Our lab is housed within the Simches Research Center at Mass General Hospital and is affiliated with Mass Eye and Ear, Mass General, Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute of MIT.



Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience



• Completion of Bachelor's degree with or without a Masters degree or PhD


Hands-on experience in cancer cell biology with proficiency and understanding of routine lab techniques


• An understanding of database management, Microsoft office tools, scientific figure composition


• Ability to work independently and as a team member


• Excellent organization and careful attention to detail


• Great interpersonal and communication skills


• Ability to solve problems efficiently and independently


• Strong leadership skills


• Highly organized and meticulous
