NEW VENTURES
New Ventures is focused on developing new diabetes systems, products and solutions in an inorganic, accelerator environment. Our team is unique in that we can adapt to a variety of business, patient and marketplace needs that span the entire spectrum of our product portfolio today and in the future. Our mission drives the need to be a highly skilled, flexible, extremely efficient, versatile and agile in medical device product development for the benefit of our patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in need of intensive insulin therapy.
PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST
The Principal Scientist is responsible for driving the technical strategy and tactical execution of research leading to products for patients in need of emerging solutions to help manage their diabetes. Leveraging a broad and diverse technical experience and skillset, this position will provide technical leadership and direction to and collaborate with a cross-functional program development team including co-collaborators, outside partners and internal members with expertise from a wide variety of engineering and product development disciplines. Some of these team member disciplines including engineering (field, mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, manufacturing), marketing, clinical regulatory affairs, quality and other key business functions. In addition, this position will generate technical plans based on the objectives that are informed by key technical considerations, input from the internal team, and feedback from external stakeholders. As the technical leader of the program, this position will work side-by-side with the program leader, lead key technical efforts, and actively participate in key stakeholder discussions.

A Day in the Life


  • Plan and lead the technical aspects of clinical evidence development projects from conception through commercialization leveraging multiple data sources
  • Lead the clinical literature review and development efforts to support clinical evaluation plans and reports
  • Identify opportunities for clinical evidence generation based on collaborations as well as existing documentation and data sources
  • Support clinician-initiated research projects
  • Leverage engineering data sources and documentation to generate evidence and publications
  • Lead efforts to collect data and clinical evidence surrounding therapy impact on patient lives and efficacy
  • Collaborate with key external stakeholders and glean insights from patient voices
  • Help shape key messaging to support the therapy and product road map
  • Establish the clinical evidence infrastructure to support the needs of current and future programs
  • Lead the effort to compile the Clinical Evaluation Report and Report of Priors necessary for clinical use
  • Support the extramural fundraising opportunities for both current and expanded indications
  • Support the cross-functional team on the execution of the various product development effort
  • Coaching and mentoring team members
  • Building and enhancing the Intellectual Property portfolio
  • Frame and direct effective and efficient technical trade-off discussions
  • Communicate with leadership, management and team members
  • Engage team members to ensure effective team dynamics and mutual accountability.

REQUIREMENTS

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience

Nice to Have:

  • Strong preference for engineering and life science education and experience
  • Doctoral/PhD education preferred
  • Mastery and proficiency in product development, including clear understanding of the product development lifecycle, technology development mechanisms with a track record of success products realized in the marketplace
  • Influence management skills; experience working collaboratively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals
  • Business acumen; ability to think and act from an overall "best for the business" perspective
  • Results oriented, self-starter with a strong initiative and sense of urgency
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to affect change
  • Experience and demonstrated track record of leading within complex organizations requiring strong technical leadership and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness - ability to succinctly and accurately communicate to various levels of management and employees.
  • Effective decision-making skills - experience negotiating and balancing decisions and priorities across needs of several functional departments and willingness to make tough decisions. Makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organization and time management skills to effectively develop and execute comprehensive programs and budgets
  • Experience with MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, VISIO, Outlook, SharePoint and other collaboration and workflow management tools
  • Travel up to 25%
