Opportunity:
The Assistant Dean of Colleges and Curriculum for Health Information Technology and Health Information Management assists in the management of courses, curriculum, and programs within the College of Health Sciences at DeVry University, as assigned. Duties can include managing faculty, ensuring academic policy and integrity are upheld, assisting with assessment and accreditation, and contributing to other projects as needed.
Responsibilities:
Manages and provides support for course development and revision initiatives for assigned courses and programs to ensure that all courses are current and at the appropriate level.
Verifies that course objectives are reflected in course deliverables and are aligned to program outcomes.
Collaborates, develops, and facilitates course development (agile/planned) within the established guidelines and processes in addition to auditing course materials.
Fulfills management responsibilities as assigned, which can include full time faculty, visiting faculty, and/or academic administrators, providing ongoing guidance, coaching and support to be highly effective in their role.
Supports an Innovative Learning Environment for Students by supporting the integration of new and existing course technologies.
Collaborates with colleagues from Academics and across departments to ensure the effective delivery of courses and programs.
Participates in the development of program strategy/road map.
Supports ongoing program assessment and accreditation activities, including collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure that meaningful assessment of student achievement, are included in each course and that appropriate use of assessment is used for continuous improvement of courses.
Collects and evaluates course content-related feedback from stakeholders, including faculty and students, and drives the integration of suggested changes into curriculum, as appropriate.
Collaborates with practicum facilitators in apprenticeship/internship development.
Communicates curricular and programmatic changes, as appropriate.
Liaison with the University Library.
Facilitates faculty course training.
Participate in University and Departmental committees as appropriate.
May occasionally teach a course within an approved university discipline.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in field being taught or master’s degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in field being taught
Three to five years of healthcare industry experience appropriate to health information
Two years previous teaching experience
Qualifying credentials must be awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Administration, or by an international institution determined to hold equivalent accreditation
Demonstrated substantial and noteworthy achievement in curriculum and program management.
Demonstrated ability and achievement in management.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, management, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability in administration and attention to detail.
Strong verbal, written, and telephone skills.
Demonstrated sound working knowledge of personal computer hardware/software and the Internet.
Experience coaching and mentoring staff.
Excellent analytical skills.
Able to work independently with minimal day to day supervision.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, effectively achieving team objectives and goals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree in field being taught or Doctorate Degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in field being taught.
RHIA industry certification from AHIMA
CPC certification from AAPC or CCS certification from AHIMA
All Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
Five years previous teaching experience preferred.
