The Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University is searching for a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to fill the role of Veterinary Care Technician in the Anesthesia section. Work involves assisting a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving animal care, specifically in the areas of pain management and critical care. Successful candidate works as a team member to provide anesthesia service for surgical, medical and diagnostic cases of small and large animals (80/20 split); problem solves issues; reviews patients' medical histories and determines appropriate pre-anesthetic and anesthetic agents to be administered; administers anesthesia; monitors patients' conditions &responses throughout the procedures and during recovery phase; enters charges into hospital information system; stocks supplies; maintains anesthesia equipment; assists with instructing students on anesthesia techniques, agents and equipment; mentors and provides guidance to students enrolled in a veterinary technician program; required to participate in emergency on-call anesthesia service; in charge of coordinating daily patient schedule on a rotating basis; other duties as necessary and assigned. The successful candidates will be expected to work 40 hours a week on first shift with weekend/holiday on-call hours based on a team rotation. Successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Ohio and complete a background check.
Hiring range:
$27.55 - $34.47 per hour; this position is eligible for an additional shift differential pay up to $2.50 per hour.
Previous experience as a licensed, registered veterinary technician and/or Veterinary Assistant; Preference to prior experience especially focusing on anesthesiology and/or critical services; Preference to board certification/recognition from the Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists and the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians
