Position Overview:

The Insulet Human Factors team is looking for enthusiastic and team-focused individuals that have a desire to learn and apply Human Factors principles to design safe, effective and usable products for the diabetes-care industry.

The Co-op, Human Factors Engineering will be integral to the completion of Human Factors deliverables needed for the definition, design, and evaluation of medical devices within the diabetes-care industry. You will be joining a small, dynamic team of Human Factors Engineers to contribute to the design and development of next-generation diabetes products prior to commercial release. The ideal candidate is someone who has an interest in Human Factors, thrives in highly collaborative environments, is an analytical thinker, has a high level of curiosity when solving problems, and wants to make a direct impact on patient lives by ensuring the products they use achieve world-class safety and usability.

The position will report to a Sr. Human Factors Engineer in the Human Factors Engineering Department.

Responsibilities:

As a Co-op, Human Factors Engineering, you will assist in executing Human Factors activities in accordance with industry standards (FDA guidance documents and recognized standards including 62366 and HE75) for a next-generation diabetes product.

Co-op responsibilities may include:

• Assist with the planning and execution of Human Factors formative and validation studies including coordination of study logistics and supporting data collection.


• Perform root cause analyses and other qualitative data analysis methods to analyze data from Human Factors formative and validation studies. Based on study results, provide actionable design recommendations, and create presentations summarizing study results.


• Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen team practices and documentation.


• Collaborate with cross functional team members on the development of design concepts to ensure optimized user interface design and correct application of risk controls necessary for safe use.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.


• Students in their 2nd year of undergraduate study and above will be considered.


• Strong technical writing ability around complex engineering concepts.


• Strong personal computer skills (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets)


• Ability and desire to work in a collaborative team environment.


• Effective verbal and written communication skills.


• Ability to follow written and verbal directions and procedures.


• Ability to generate and maintain accurate records.


• Willingness to travel to a location within the United States as needed to support formative and validation studies (up to two weeks at a time, about 10% of co-op time).

• Human Factors experience in the medical device industry a plus.


• Knowledge of FDA's Human Factors Guidance and recognized standards (HE75, 62366) related to medical devices.


• Experience with user-centered design methods and conducting Human Factors formative and validation studies.


• General understanding of medical devices or other safety-critical technologies.

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $23.00 - $31.25. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
