Purpose of Job:
The primary responsibilities of he Supplemental Instructor (SI) for Physical Geology (GEOL1303) are to audit the class and hold weekly tutoring sessions for students enrolled in the class. The SI will serve as an intermediary between the students and the instructor and it will be the SI's charge to engage with students and promote weekly meetings. Upon request, the SI may also arrange individual meetings with students. The SI will report to the Physical Geology professor weekly to discuss student engagement and progress.
Duties and Responsibilities:-Attend Physical Geology lecture.-Hold weekly tutoring/study sessions.-Work with students individually, upon request.-Meet weekly with the Physical Geology professor.
Supervision: direct supervision from course instructor, Dr. Thomas Shiller.
STEM Internship Program:This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTS) Supplemental Instructor Program. The purpose of the Supplemental Instructor Program is to support undergraduate STEM students through the more challenging courses in the different degree plans offered by the Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences (ALPS) college. For courses identified as presenting an outsized barrier to student success in and/or acceptance into their preferred STEM major field coursework, Supplemental Instructors (Sis) will be recruited from high achieving senior-level students who have taken the same course in the past or graduate students.
