The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Miami is currently seeking a part time Occupational Therapist to work in Miami, FL. The Occupational Therapist I provides effective and efficient rehabilitation, in accordance with the AOTA guidelines for occupational therapy, and participates in the development of services and programs provided by the University of Miami Health System.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Performs evaluation on new patients, establishes goals, and develops appropriate treatment plans.


  • Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions.


  • Provides relevant education to patients and families regarding the patient's condition.


  • Develops and maintains effective communication with all members of the rehabilitation team.


  • Communicates with physicians and their staff, obtains necessary information, and suggests revisions in treatment.


  • Participates in quality and safety improvement activities, and orients, instructs, and directs work activities for assistants and support personnel.


  • Supervises and instructs physical therapy students and provides or participates in educational programs for staff, patients, and the community at large.


  • Participates in program development and marketing efforts.


  • Pursues professional growth actively through affiliation with professional occupational therapy associations, and workshop and conference attendance.


  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:



Bachelor's Degree in relevant field



Certification and Licensing:



Certification in relevant specialty or field

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.


  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.


  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.


  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Department Specific Functions




Use of Department Specific Tools and Equipment:



  • Walker, crutches, cane, wheelchair, lift equipment, hospital beds, commodes, goniometer, traction units, ultrasound machine, electrical stimulation machines, iontophoresis, vasopneumatic pump, cuff weights, pulley weights, isokinetic exercise equipment, and general office equipment (telephone, computer, facsimile machine and copier).


  • Electronic Medical Record and multiple related software programs and tools





Department Specific Qualifications




Education:



Master's or Doctoral degree in occupational therapy preferred; Bachelor's degrees accepted



Certification and Licensing:



Licensure in occupational therapy



Experience:



Experience preferred, but not required
