Job Description:

Coherent's Electro-Optics Components Business Unit has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern. We are looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on teammate who will help to lead efforts to improve existing products and processes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Work under the direction of a Lead Mfg Engineer to help bring online a new laser diode production cell.
  • Hands on production station building and commissioning including wiring, cooling loop plumbing and software configuration
  • Station qualification and repeatability studies
  • Support technicians in the build and test of laser diode first articles
  • Participating in Lean activities in the manufacturing area, for example: production floor layout, improving data collection, updating work instructions, and developing new and better manufacturing approaches and processes.
  • Assist in the design and setup test fixtures for experiments.
  • Assisting in maintaining test equipment, ensuring equipment is calibrated.
  • Commitment to ISO procedures and policies.
  • Conducting improvement experiments in order to improve reliability and quality of our products as well as first pass yield using a detail-oriented approach to experimentation and sharing those results with the rest of the team.
  • Resolve production issues (Failure analysis, Root Cause Determination, and Implementing Corrective Actions).


Education & Experience
  • Associates Degree in technical field, or In-process for a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.

Skills

  • High level of computer skill, and strong written and verbal skills.
  • Detail orientated thinking with the ability to multitask.
  • Flexible attitude with demonstrated ability to adapt to change and a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrate a wide degree of creativity.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate and coordinate with team members in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Solidworks (or other 3D Modeling Software), or willingness to learn, is required.
  • Attention to detail and very analytical.
  • Basic knowledge of algebra and trigonometry.
  • Experience with the operation lasers and power supplies.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible attitude with demonstrated ability to adapt to change and a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with all employee levels.
  • Ability to clean optics and mechanical parts utilizing various chemical solvents.
  • Ability to work with strong magnets.


Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a cleanroom manufacturing setting

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an 8-hour shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
