The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Central R&D Product Informatics and Modeling group, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Collaborating with scientists & engineers to evaluate healthcare products and components


• Executing prioritized laboratory tasks including instrument set up & calibration, sample preparation, testing to specifications, data collection & aggregation, and statistical analysis


• Contributing to validation of test methods and instrument set ups including across sites


• Implementing best lab practices at the intersection of mechanical materials testing, computational simulations, and data science


• Contribute to the development of new test methods with mechanical design & prototyping


• Thoroughly documenting and reporting results in both electronic and written format


• Completing work with little supervision and working well in a team

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science or Engineering, or related field


• Master's degree with emphasis on mechanical testing and properties of materials


• Two (2) years of experience in an academic, industry, or government laboratory


• Experience working with mechanical measurements including ASTM and ISO standards


• Experience with sample preparation, statistical methods and data collection


• Experience with setting up and running mechanical test methods including but not limited to tensile and elongation, compression, rheology, peel and impact testing


• Experience developing test methods, standard operating procedures for those test methods and measurement systems analysis


• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and to contribute to their development


• Comprehension of how mechanical measurements are used to develop material models and mechanical simulations including computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis


• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including documentation of work

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $79,828 - $97,567, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
