Responsibilities

  • Serves as an academic advisor for student-athletes in select Revenue and Olympic Sports.

  • Responsible for monitoring academic eligibility and progress to provide academics support for assigned student-athletes.

  • Responsible for coordinating and monitoring all processes the advisor does: meeting structure, files, updating forms, campus contacts; Advise student-athletes in terms of course selection and NCAA rules eligibility, certification, and progress towards degree, contribute to NCAA academic waiver process.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the internship program with 5-7 full time interns provides training, oversight, and preparation for full-time employment in the academic services field.

  • Serves as liaison between Undergraduate Studies, Athletic Department, faculty, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and other Academic Departments. Has occasional contact with the media and officials from the ACC and NCAA. May serve on or chair select departmental or UGS committee working groups.

  • Involved in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes which includes interaction with recruits and their families, coaches, guidance counselors, and alumni.

  • Responsible for keeping the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, appropriate Athletics Department staff, and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies informed about current and future needs to adequately provide comprehensive academic advising support programs for student-athletes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Experience working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.

  • Experience in presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.

  • Experience with academic advising/oversight in a secondary or post-secondary setting.

  • Experience working independently and prioritizing work under deadlines.

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

  • Ability to supervise staff.

  • Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff.

  • Attention to detail and the highest standard of integrity are imperative.

  • Ability to deal with people calmly, confidently and with complete objectivity.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.

Anticipated Salary Range

High $50,000's to low $60,000's commensurate with education and experience.
