Job Description:
The position is with the Nebraska Legislature's non-partisan Legislative Audit Office, which conducts performance audits of state programs. The successful candidate will be a strong critical thinker with excellent research and communications skills (oral and written), who is able to work constructively as part of a team.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Under limited supervision, works with team members on research, data analysis, and report writing regarding performance of state programs.
The Nebraska Legislative Audit Office is seeking a performance auditor to conduct reviews of state agencies/programs in compliance with Government Auditing Standards. Interdisciplinary audit teams evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of government programs using quantitative and qualitative analytical skills:
Investigate state government operations and procedures to identify and make recommendations for policy and program improvements
Conduct in-depth analysis of agency records and interview audited entity's staff and other government officials
Develop methods to obtain required data
Assist supervisors in planning, conducting, and writing audits within established timelines.
Prepare concise reports and explain results to state officials, legislative committees, the media, and citizens
Hiring rate of position: $64,619 - $72,688. Salary will be increased 15% on July 1, 2024.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Graduate degree (in public administration, law, political science, economics, or other field emphasizing analytical skills, research, and organization of data) and 1 year relevant work experience OR bachelor's degree in one of the fields listed above and 2 years relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Ability to conduct impartial research, communicate effectively orally within and outside of the Office, organize and plan work, summarize complex information into key points, write and edit well, work under pressure, use computer applications including Word and Excel, and maintain confidentiality.
