The Senior Estimator operates with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams, frequently serving as the principal point of contact with the design team and the owner. Senior estimators are capable of leading all types of project delivery methods and have demonstrated competence in basic and advanced estimating functions. Desired estimating disciplines include earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structures on transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects. Successful candidates will prepare detailed take-offs, solicit quotes, develop cost estimates, and close out bids.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced level HCSS knowledge of estimate entry and quote system tools.
Estimate all scopes related to their discipline area of expertise.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs on bid items and materials in order to develop all-inclusive cost estimates.
Estimate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection.
Participate in detailed reviews, providing thorough explanation of estimate.
Utilization of relevant cost history database to verify production rates.
Prepare supplier bid packages to ensure that self-performed work has competitive material quotes.
Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation processes.
Assist in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors.

Mass Earthwork and Grading
Geotechnical report review - dewatering, blasting, and ripping requirements.
Earthwork flow, mass haul diagrams, project phasing.
Scraper, dozer, truck, loader, and excavator productions.

Aggregates and Concrete Paving
Identification of quarries and pits suitable for project use.
Production of aggregate and concrete through various methods.
Develop concrete paving plans, determine hand pour versus slipform.
Knowledge and understanding of concrete paving equipment and batch plants.
Bridges and Structures
Falsework and formwork systems.
Post tensioning, precast yards, and foundations.
Crane selection, erection of precast elements, structural steel, and cast in place techniques.
Knowledge and understanding of TxDOT bridge construction, specifications, and standards.
Cast-in-place drainage structures.
Marine construction methods and equipment selection.
Underground Utilities and Storm Drain
Extensive experience estimating and construction knowledge of both storm drainage and wet utilities.
Geotechnical report review - dewatering, blasting, and excavation requirements.
Experience and knowledge with trench protection, shoring and bypass pumping.
Excavation methods and equipment selection.
Quantification of mechanical assemblies such as valves, fittings, and other appurtenances.
Ability to estimate underground cast-in-place structures.
Analysis and pricing of backfill methods and materials.
Installation methods for WSP, Bar-Wrap, DIP, PVC materials for Waterline including Testing, Disinfection, and Final Tie-in.
Installation methods for FRP, VCP, PVC, DIP materials for Sanitary Sewer including Testing, CCTV, and Final Tie-in.
Knowledge and understanding of TxDOT and Municipal specifications and standards.
Working knowledge of franchise utilities and impacts on construction methods.
Minimum Job Requirements
Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Preferred candidates will have obtained their LEED accreditation and DBIA certification, or express willingness to obtain.
Four - year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
Ten or more years of experience in an estimating role.
Successful history executing projects as the prime point of contact with minimal oversight for project teams.
Ideal candidates will have project experience in one or more key market sectors identified by the business unit.
