The Organ Recovery Specialist is primarily responsible for the 24-hour coverage for transplant patient call triage and organ transplant logistics. Responsible for fielding all organ offers and coordinating logistics when an offer is accepted. Coordinates all aspects of the donor operation, including travel to the deceased donor organs being recovered, calling patient, working with Organ Procurement Organization, scheduling the case in the Operating Room, and communicating with all members of the team to ensure a smooth recipient operation.Minimum Required: Associate's Degree.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION: Registered Nurse.

Minimum Required: 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience.

Preferred: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience.Transplant Organ Offers:

Fields all import and local organ offers, screens offers, and calls surgeon or fellow with offer when appropriate. Along with Organ Recovery Specialist-Clinical Service Specialist, team provides 24-hour coverage for organ procurement logistics. Negotiates labs/diagnostics requested by surgeon with donor coordinator from host OPO. Contacts HLA with potential recipients to cross match. Negotiates OR time with host OPO. Notifies surgeon/fellow/preservation team of OR time. Arranges transportation for procurement team. Communication in OR between recovery and transplanting teams. Facilitate biopsies with surgical pathology as needed. Assists in arranging OR for recipient surgery. Determines recovery needs and packs supplies accordingly. Works with the OPO with logistics to place organ on perfusion pump as needed.

Triage Patient Calls:

Receives patient calls after business hours including weekends and holidays to assess patient concerns and triage the patient to the appropriate care. Escalates major patient care concerns to physician on call and/or coordinates patient care to the emergency department. Coordinates non-urgent care with transplant ambulatory clinics including TACU for regular business hours. Documents calls including follow up items and communicates with the care team.

Patient Record Documentation:

Records data and maintains charts for import offers, local offers, and organ preservation activity. Assists QA with data collection and analysis to maintain transplant center expectations and identify opportunities for advancement. Removes candidates from waitlist following successful transplantation.

Culture Reporting:

Receives and reports cultures and infectious diseases per OPTN policy.

Education:

Coordinates education with various departments involved in transplantation to ensure understanding of organ procurement and allocation policies and procedures.Transplant Organ Offers:
