The Lester Group

Summary

Assigns motor vehicles and drivers for conveyance of freight by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compiles list of available vehicles.

Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight being loaded and preference of user.
Loads and unloads material per established company procedures.

Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.

Investigates overdue vehicles.

Directs activities of drivers by two-way radio.

Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise.

Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses.

Establishes service or delivery routes.

Tallies all material returned and does the proper paperwork to re-enter inventory.

Assigns helpers to drivers.

Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
