As a Water Treatment Operator/ Technician -, you’ll be a valued member of our field operations team. You’ll perform a variety of tasks associated with industrial, emergency response, and remediation projects. The ideal candidate will: Be a team-player with a focus on safety and quality Be comfortable operating a variety of tools and equipment including steam cleaners, water lasers, cascade systems, chemical mixers, generators, air saws, drills, grinders, cutting torches, etc. Be capable of performing physical labor associated with clean-up activities, sample collection, waste removal and other remediation tasks Be able to successfully complete an OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training program (company-paid) Essential Duties Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant. Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing, repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools, tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities. May operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water, and purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains. Dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. Mixes chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water. Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements Must have a minimum of 1year experience in a similar role. Experience in similar plants and systems. Must have a valid, current driver's license. Work Environment Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands; regularly lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. Requires use of hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to maneuver a job site, including small spaces in around equipment Other Requirements: You must be able to successfully pass HEPACO’s pre-employment background check, physical exam, and drug screening. This position regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing, squatting, and kneeling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task.
