Overview
The System Administrator IV position will be responsible for managing and maintaining the NOAA's IT infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, security, and efficiency. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and administer the organization's server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers and associated hardware and software.
Monitor system performance and reliability, proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
Implement and maintain security measures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data, including access controls, firewalls, and encryption.
Conduct regular system backups and develop disaster recovery plans to ensure data availability and business continuity in the event of a system failure or disaster.
Collaborate with other IT team members and stakeholders to plan and implement system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
Provide technical support and guidance to junior administrators and end-users, including troubleshooting complex issues and providing timely resolution.
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluate their potential impact on the organization's IT infrastructure, and make recommendations for adoption or integration.
Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents and emergencies as needed.
Adhere to established policies, procedures, and security standards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and contractual obligations.
Responsibilities
Must be able to work independently to provide input and recommendations into the design phase and successfully execute requirements.
Must be able to install and configure the following: Red Hat Identity Management/clients/related services, Red Hat Satellite Server, Active Directory, Red Hat Ansible Tower, System Center Configuration Manager, and PKI infrastructure
Must excel at troubleshooting complex problems to resolution.
Must be able to configure and install virtual desktop infrastructure and Enterprise backup solutions.
Must be able to alter kernel settings.
Must be able to tune system utilizations for memory, processes, and network performance.
Must be able to train and mentor Junior Level SAs-
8-12 years of experience with planning, designing, and installing virtual hardware/software within an Enterprise data center
Must have 1 or more certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), VMWare Certified Design Expert - Data Center Virtualization, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
Eligibility/Clearance Requirements: Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and is able to be cleared at the Public Trust Level
