The Opportunity
We are seeking a 40-hour, Night Shift Physician Assistant to support our Inpatient Orthopedics team. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462
Our PAs are responsible for covering the Emergency Department and the inpatient floor while also conducting inpatient surgical consults and providing Operating Room coverage. The Physician Assistants on the Pediatrics Orthopedics team share some of their time with the NWH Neurological Surgery Service. Providers work autonomously to the top of their licensure and are responsible for:
Present and discussing their evaluations with Attending Surgeons to determine proper treatment plans
Ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results
Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: wound care/debridement; tube/drain insertion, care or removal; suturing/suture removal; insertion or removal of traction pins; splint, brace or cast application or removal; medication administration including IV push drugs and the injection of steroid and anesthetic agents; insertion or removal of central venous lines; insertion of nasogastric tubes; bladder catheterization; phlebotomy and IV insertion; and electrocardiograms
Conducting daily patient rounds and attending weekly grand surgical rounds
Participating in the discharge planning process
Educating and counseling patients and families
Orienting medical students, physician assistant and surgical residents to the environment, patient care practices, and hospital policies and procedures
Participating in the quality improvement/quality assurance process

Qualifications
Qualifications
Certificate of registration from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Physician Assistants
CPR (BLS) certification required
Two years of experience as a Physician Assistant preferred
Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of infant, child, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients preferred
