Reporting to the Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager, the histotechnologist accurately and proficiently prepares tissue slides according to established procedures in order to provide efficient, high quality products. Full rotation on immunohistochemistry and special stains. Assures total compliance with JC and CAP guidelines during all procedures and consistently observes all policies and guidelines. Performs QA procedures to ensure proper functioning of equipment and quality of solutions and reagents used to produce tissue slides. Must handle biohazardous and infectious material while following proper safety precautions.


Accurately and proficiently prepares tissue slides according to established procedures, allowing for an accurate microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist. Performs quality assurance procedures with proper recording of results, according to departmental guidelines, to ensure proper functioning of equipment and quality of solutions and reagents used. Participates in the proper orientation and training of new employees and/or students to ensure the necessary quality assurance of the procedures performed. Promotes and maintains a professional attitude and demonstrates good judgement in referring problems to the appropriate authority to ensure a proper resolution. Histology laboratory environment includes biohazardous and chemical materials. Must be trained in basic laboratory safety techniques, infection control, safe chemical handling and OSHA safety regulations. Environment may include moving equipment parts and have background noise levels.



Qualifications

3-5 years lab experience preferred. Immunohistochemistry and special stain experience preferred. Minimum of high school diploma, or equivalent.
