Job Purpose

The successful candidate for the Process Engineer position will work directly with other engineers, chemists, and operators to complete projects in support of process and product development. The Process Engineer will facilitate the development and launch of brand-new chemistries to support MacDermid Alpha's high growth markets in the circuitry and semiconductors business. The Process Engineer will also supply intermediate products to High Volume Manufacturing (HVM).

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee general operations
  • Conducts pilot scale manufacturing runs according to established protocols
  • Conducts lab and pilot-scale experiments, defines optimal conditions and makes recommendations for improvement
  • Collects and consolidates data during experiments and effectively communicates results with key stakeholders, colleagues, and customers
  • Conducts raw material and equipment evaluations, and develops test specifications
  • Validate new trial product test specifications & methods, making recommendations before launching new products
  • Supports the scaling of the production process from pilot to high volume manufacturing with activities including the development of robust manufacturing instructions, validation of full scale batches, and training for manufacturing operators
  • Assists in the creation of a control plan and FMEA for new products. Creates control limits for intermediate products created by the Pilot Production Lab (PPL)
  • Support customer qualification of new products by providing final chemical samples and data packages
  • Provide product samples to both R&D and customers (both product and packaging)
  • Operates equipment and follows procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is required, and a MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • 3-7 years of chemical manufacturing experience specifically in chemical synthesis (using hazardous materials).
  • Experience with statistics and experiment design in Minitab is a plus
  • Familiarity with process documents used in design and safety evaluations such as FMEA, P&ID, HAZOP
  • Familiarity with analytical methods and characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, SAXS, TGA, DSC, Ion Chromatography and GC-MS
  • Raises inquiries and problem solves by leveraging appropriate resources to drive issues to resolution
  • Ability to identify and address potential safety hazards
  • Prioritizes safety of self and team and actively contributes to a culture of safety
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the PPL team
  • Ability to work in a high-pace environment while managing multiple priorities at one time
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and shift priorities as necessary
  • High ethical standards, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Well-organized, detail oriented, and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner with customers both on and off site.
