Medtronic's OC Campus is looking for a Manufacturing Director | Site Leader for the Santa Ana facility. As part of Medtronic's Vascular Technologies portfolio, we focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves-aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid-and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body's largest artery, the aorta.

To drive the synergies across the 3 sites that exist in Orange County under Vascular Therapies Implants and Drug and Chemistry Technologies, we are introducing the OC Campus Strategy, which will include the harmonization of all Orange County manufacturing campuses including:
• Santa Ana - Surgical Valve and Transcatheter Valve
• Irvine - Stroke/Aneurysm and Embolization
• San Juan Capistrano (Avenu) - Ellipsis Vascular Access System and Power Controller

The Manufacturing Director | Site Leader is responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of operations strategies in Santa Ana, CA to meet safety, quality, production, cost and talent development objectives. You will lead a 2-shift manufacturing operation focused on Tissue Fixation & Processing and Sewing. Managing 7 Site Staff Leaders with a workforce of ~650 including R&D. You will Coach and provide direction for Technical Functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Implement innovations into practice for continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives, as well as supporting Maintenance of Business activities.

Problems and issues faced are difficult, and may require understanding of multiple issues, job areas or specialties. You will actively make improvements of processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of the job area. Analysis provided is in-depth in nature and often provides recommendations on process improvements.


  • Lead existing manufacturing operations to ensure flawless execution and continuous improvement.
  • Employ lean concepts and techniques, working closely with production leadership and OpEx to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Plan and administer procedures and budgets.
  • Make budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor.
  • Select and develop personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function.
  • Develop comprehensive business strategies that assure success of the organization and takes ownership for all aspects of the associated value streams being managed.
  • Lead senior management with a responsibility to drive technical problem resolution, lead effective product introductions, meet quality objectives, customer demand and financial goals.
  • Must set clear priorities and assure performance against goals within those priorities.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. With ~2000 SKUs producing 60,000 units/yr.
  • Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply.
  • Plans and administers procedures and budgets.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor.
  • Selects and develops personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function.
  • Develops schedules and workforce requirements for assigned areas.
  • Lead the creation of the current-state and future-state value-stream maps and the implementation plan for getting from present to future.
  • In cooperation with the Managers of Purchasing and Planning, work to assure that all materials, information, and production meet internal and external deadlines, budgets and requirements. $65M COG
  • Manage functions to ensure that activities are performed in compliance with Medtronic's Quality System requirements and EHS policies.
  • Maintain conformance to budgetary limitations in all departments.
  • Recommend and implement training programs to address skill requirements necessary to facilitate internal promotions and job satisfaction to maximize productivity of production employees. As applicable, provides cross-training for production employees to ensure back-up personnel exist for all key positions.
  • Participate in cross-facility initiatives to determine company-wide best practices and the improvement of business processes.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within the Medical Device Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within the Medical Device Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience.

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Engineering or Technical Sciences.
  • Medical Device Manufacturing experience.
  • Breadth of background across numerous roles/functions within Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated use of Lean Manufacturing principles to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully execute a strategy.
  • Proven track record of building organizational capability and talent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of employees.
  • Experience in leading large-scale change management.
  • Experience delivering performance coaching and discipline to direct reports.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California.
