Job Description:

Position Summary 

Operate the Fine Denier, Multi Filament, and Heavy Denier lines to produce conductive fibers. Each operator is responsible for all aspects of the Conductive Fibers Coating process including but not limited to; equipment set-up, process monitoring, record keeping, housekeeping, minor maintenance, safe operation, production packing and testing.

Essential Functions 

List functions in order of importance and include a percentage for time spent performing that function. For example:


  • 15% Production set-up, changeovers, shutdowns and material loading/moving.

  • 75% Production monitoring, housekeeping, doff unloading, trouble shooting, packing and testing.

  • 5% Process control and record keeping.

  • 5% Minor maintenance, safety meetings.

  • Any free time should be spent cleaning department and sections of warehouse after all other duties have been completed.

Secondary Functions


  • Assist other production areas

  • Participate in new product trials

  • Contribute to department housekeeping and safety efforts

  • Special materials and yarn testing

  • Two 15 min Breaks

  • 30min Lunch

Position Specifications

Must have a high school diploma with good general math skills including proficiency with ratios and fractions. Candidate must have basic computer skills including MS Excel and Word. Position requires good dexterity and full range of arm and leg function including ability to use tools at or above shoulder level and endure lengthy periods standing/walking. Must be able to climb stairs and work on elevated platform.  Prefer three years’ experience in manufacturing environment. Beneficial but not required is experience with Fiber or Textile processes, lab or test equipment and rotating shift work.

 

Specific Job Functions


  • Must comply with all safety rules to include use of personal protective equipment (continuous use: safety glasses, hearing protection, hair restraint if hair is long.


  • Must be willing to learn and able to follow instructions of Trainer, Team Leader, and/or Production Supervisor and Plant Manager.


  • Must be a quick learner to operate all aspects of a small spinning line independently.


  • Must be able to identify different types of raw materials and ensure their proper transport to the machine and within the machine.


  • Must be able to set up machines and process according to the process parameter specification.


  • Must be able to neatly and accurately fill out doff records and product testing paperwork.


  • Must be able to start and stop machines according to standard operating procedures.


  • Must be able to clean mix spills according to standard operating procedures.


  • Must be able to properly clean and thread barrels.


  • Must be able to properly and efficiently thread lines through the system to godets and winders.


  • Must be able to make minor process adjustments to bring product within specification limits.


  • Must demonstrate good housekeeping practices and keep all work areas, equipment and floor clean and orderly.


  • Must be able to measure resistivity and make determination as to “good quality.”


  • Must be able to use analytical balance and denier reel to make product/raw materials analyses.


  • Must keep all process materials (finish, mix, empty tubes and finished product) flowing smoothly to and from process.


  • Must be able to operate a winding machine and adjust winding tensions during product runs and change overs.


  • Must use manual controls and some computer interface to make machine inputs.


  • Must be able to set thread path guides to obtain good winding performance.


  • Must be able to correct finish pump settings, keep finish system filled and sanitary. 


  • Must properly handle and dispose of fiber waste.


  • Must be able to properly operate mix transfer system and fill machine mix day tanks.


  • Must be vigilant in monitoring process via observation and process checks. Must also understand and demonstrate the appropriate corrective actions when deviations are identified. 


  • Are responsible for monitoring supplies (tubes, mix, finish, etc.) and report to management so they can be replenished in a timely fashion.


  • Must be able to use string-up gun and string-up the machine multiple times without becoming excessively frustrated.


  • Must be able to perform all job functions with minimal assistance from the Team Leader or other operators.


  • Must have a good general work attitude; contribute individually and as a team member.

 

Authority within Quality System: Has authority to shut down a machine in the event of quality problems that cannot be resolved in a timely manner and also in the event of unsafe conditions. Also has authority to scrap or reject any non-conforming materials in his/her department.
