Florida State University seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as our Health Research Services (HRS) Director to help oversee our growing health research operations enterprise.

Responsibilities

The HRS Director will lead a team of research coordinators and specialists who support the design, implementation, and management of health and/or clinical research and the translation of that research across various health-related areas. The HRS Director will oversee a new HRS Navigator team to serve as the first point of contact to connect investigators to appropriate support and/or expertise across the university.The HRS team is expected to collaborate with investigators, sponsors, and other stakeholders to promote and advance the quality and integrity of health research data and outcomes.

The HRS team is expected to collaborate with investigators, sponsors, and other stakeholders to promote and advance the quality and integrity of health research data and outcomes.


The

HRS Director will serve within the Office of the Vice President for Research, and work with an advisory council made up of representatives from affiliated Colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Arts & Sciences, Education and Health and Human Sciences, Social Sciences and Public Policy, Social Work, Communications and Information, and Business) as well as other university leaders to establish policies and partnerships and launch effective programs.The HRS Director will be expected to align with and facilitate efforts in collaboration with other university leads in various research centers and institutes, research development, data science and systems, regulatory and compliance, technology, and research administration and management.


This position will be responsible for the following:



  • Establish a "front door" for health/clinical research services and promote a collaborative approach to supporting researchers across the university.



  • Develop and implement strategic plans and policies for health-related research services (including clinical research), in alignment with the organization's mission and vision.



  • Promote strategies to increase clinical and health-related research at FSU and with partner organizations.



  • Supervise and mentor the health research services staff, providing guidance and feedback on their performance and professional development.



  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures, regarding human subjects protection, data security, and good clinical practice (in coordination with the Human Subjects Protection team).



  • Support the budget and financial management of health-related research projects.



  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and quality of clinical trials and other related studies, identifying and resolving any issues or risks that may arise.



  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among research stakeholders, including investigators, sponsors, clinical partners, regulatory agencies, and participants.



  • Provide training and education on clinical research best practices, standards, and tools to the clinical research staff and the research community.



  • Collaborate with Information Technology Services to advance health research technology best practices and build technology trust relationships with healthcare partners.



  • Support clinical and health research communications both internal to FSU and with external stakeholders.



  • Stay abreast of the latest developments and trends in clinical research and implement innovative and effective solutions to enhance health research services.







Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a health-related field, such as nursing, public health, or biomedical sciences (terminal degree, Ph.D. or M.D.)

  • At least five years of experience in health research management, such as clinical research, epidemiology and/or public health preferably in an academic or health care setting.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in a variety of health-related research methodologies. A broad knowledge of health and clinical research regulations.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of health research professionals.

  • Demonstrated experience in collaboration strategies and leadership through influence.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and clinical research software applications, such as electronic data capture, clinical trial management, and statistical analysis.








Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in clinical research administration or coordination, such as CCRA or CCRC, is preferred.
