Job Summary
The Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University seeks a Director of Collaborative Piano to begin August 2024. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding pianist, and have a wide musical knowledge, including performance experience of both repertoire staples and new works with singers and instrumentalists; as well as administrative experience in all aspects of managing a collaborative piano program. The collaborative piano program at the Schwob School works with studios with full-time faculty in every performance area, a wide range of ensembles, and staged and semi-staged productions. Review of applications will begin on May 6, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities include: Perform with students, faculty, and guest artists as a collaborative pianist.; Manage a staff of student and professional collaborative pianists, which includes but is not limited to: Matching pianists with applied music studios in consultation with applied music faculty; Assigning pianists for lessons, juries, recitals, concerts, classes, opera/musical theatre productions, and competitions.; Preparing payroll reports for professional accompanists who are hourly part-time staff members.; Preparing budget reports on collaborative piano expenditures for the school Director.; Creating the schedule for the annual concerto competition with the Director of Orchestral Activities.; Supporting the recruitment efforts of applied music studios to maintain a high level of performance expertise among the student body.; Assisting the piano area in the development of increasing student expertise, in particular at the graduate level, in the work of the collaborative pianist.; Collaborate with the following individuals on a regular basis: Faculty member(s) in piano, Area coordinators in Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, and Voice, Directors of Choral Activities, Orchestral Activities, and Wind Ensemble Activities Schwob School office and production staff.
Secondary Responsibilities include: The Director of Collaborative Piano may teach classes as assigned by the Director and based on the needs of the piano program.
Required Qualifications
Required qualifications include: A master's degree in piano performance or collaborative piano, or its equivalent, is required. Applicants who can demonstrate significant and sustained professional performance as a collaborative pianist will be considered to have demonstrated the equivalency of a master's degree.; Experience as a collaborative pianist across a range of genres, in rehearsal and in performance.; Experience working with students and assisting them in advancing their interpretive skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications include: Evidence of excellence in sight reading and the ability to learn new repertoire quickly.; College-level experience in teaching, coaching, and/or supervising a collaborative piano program.; A DMA or equivalent advanced training in collaborative piano/piano performance.
Proposed Salary
The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $55,723- $61,314 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Knowledge of and the ability to play/perform repertoire in various chamber music settings.
