The Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 1, SOM to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM, supports research activities in Dr. Christine Dinh's research laboratory by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects, performing daily lab-keeping tasks, collecting and analyzing data, and participating in animal procedures and survival surgery adhering to IACUC rules and regulations. Dr. Christine Dinh's research focuses on elucidating the tumor microenvironment and tumor biology in vestibular schwannoma and Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2), testing and translating new therapies for VS and NF2, testing otoprotective and ototoxic agents on auditory hair cells and hearing, and understanding the biological mechanisms of perineural invasion in head and neck and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. 11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:



Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.



Experience:



Research experience is not required. Nevertheless, it is preferred if the incumbent has taken core biology classes with the laboratory.

Department Specific Functions



1. The incumbent reports to the Primary Investigators and the laboratory manager.
2. The incumbent will be expected to adhere to good laboratory practices and the fundamental ethical responsibilities of a researcher/scientist.
3. The incumbent will be expected to develop knowledge and understanding of research methodology.
4. Collaborates with other research personnel, students, residents, and faculty.
5. The incumbent will be expected to have a team-first attitude.
6. The incumbent will be expected to follow experimental protocols, timelines, and due dates.
7. The incumbent will be expected to keep records of biological samples, cell, and tumor banks.
8. The incumbent will be expected to accommodate a changing work schedule.
9. The incumbent will be expected to handle multiple studies simultaneously.
10. The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance of lab inventory.
11. The incumbent will be expected to learn and perform a variety of basic and translational science assays.
12. The incumbent will perform moderate to complex research assays/experiments and adapt procedures for quality improvement under supervision.
13. The incumbent will perform auditory, balanced, and behavioral tests on rodents and keep records adhering to IACUC rules and regulations.
14. The incumbent will participate in animal survival surgery and tissue harvesting.
15. The incumbent will be involved in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

Education:



The following are preferred bachelor's degrees: Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular biology, or related sciences.



Certification and Licensing:

Experience:



Academic laboratory or research experience is preferred but not required.
