Prudential’s Group Insurance business manufactures and distributes a full range of group life, long-term and short-term group disability, supplemental health, and group corporate, bank and trust owned life insurance in the U.S., primarily to institutional clients for use in connection with employee and membership benefits plans. Group Insurance also sells accidental death and dismemberment and other ancillary coverages and provides plan administrative services in connection with its insurance coverages.

The Group Insurance business is undergoing a transformation which includes expanding product offerings and driving sustainable, profitable growth.

We are currently seeking an individual to become part of the Product organization, as Chief Product Owner (CPO), Product Delivery - Group Insurance. As CPO, you will be a key leader in the Product & Underwriting organization focusing on implementing and improving product development journeys which are directly tied to the strategies of Prudential’s Group Insurance business. Furthermore, you will play an instrumental role in ensuring that the product teams are able to launch new offerings to market in an effective and efficient manner leveraging advanced and package technologies. This role will have direct reports.

The current employee work arrangement for this position is hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.

What you can expect:


  • Closely partner with the Product P&L Leaders and Product Delivery Business Owner to understand the Group Insurance product development strategy.


  • Participate in product strategy development, portfolio management, and product roadmap planning with Product P&L leaders and the Head of Product to ensure plans are aligned with available Product Delivery resources and capacity.


  • Partner collaboratively with the Product Delivery Technology Leader to build a delivery roadmap to allow for successful execution of the product strategy.


  • Work closely with other Group Insurance CPO’s to ensure roadmaps are aligned, common technology frameworks are leveraged, to share development best practices and proactively uncover and address roadblocks to effective product delivery.


  • Partner with multiple other internal and external entities (vendors, advisors, business subject matter experts, control partners, etc.) to ensure optimal solutions and outcomes.


  • Develop a robust understanding of the various systems that will need to be modified to bring a product offering to market.


  • Stay abreast of technological developments that can dramatically improve the product development cycle times or other efficiencies.


  • Ensure the effective build out and delivery of product offerings across the Group Insurance ecosystem through multiple agile teams.


  • Validate minimal viable product concepts with Product Delivery Business Owner.


  • Ensure Product Owner(s) have defined Epics and User Stories at the appropriate level of detail and are effectively managing the feature backlog.


  • Prioritize backlog by assessing business and customer value through input from all lead roles and various stakeholders.


  • Lead product sync meeting of Product Owners and stakeholders to ensure continuous alignment of product scope.


  • Lead PI planning readiness of Product Owners and stakeholders to ensure the ART maintains continuous flow of value delivery.


  • Validate and accept features when they are completed by the Product Delivery journey.


  • Work with Solution Architect to understand and prioritize enabler work.


  • Define releases and program increments.


  • Collaborate with the Scrum Master and Scrum team to run successful Release Planning and Sprint Planning sessions, as well as Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.


Other responsibilities:


  • Perform capacity planning and assign work to direct reports.


  • Lead, coach, develop, and provide strategic guidance for team members while fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion.


  • Establish measurement framework (e.g., KPI’s, OKR’s) to assess and improve product development practices.


  • Review existing product development lifecycle methodology and practices and make improvements as necessary.


What you’ll need:


  • 10+ years of experience in Group Insurance, with at least 5 years of experience working in Product Development / Product Delivery / Digital Transformation.


  • Understands Scaled Agile Framework and Lean-Agile principles and practices.


  • Demonstrated experience with customer discovery for product definition.


  • Self-starter, who can define and establish a product development capability based on industry and recognized best practices.


  • Be technology-forward, identifying and driving advanced technologies to fundamentally innovate and lead product development in the industry.


  • Track record of successfully delivering projects with iterative release components.


  • A leader, manager, and administrator with an engaging personality, who has strong people management skills.


  • A problem-solver who exhibits sound business judgement and innovative applications of risk adherence who can adapt as necessary and appropriate to the situation.


  • Dedicated, principled but flexible and hard-working, with a high energy level.


  • Action oriented with the ability to execute an operational plan set by Product and/or Group Insurance Leadership.


  • Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication skills, team orientation, and the desire and ability to work with business partners across the organization.


  • Adept at navigating ambiguous situations, demonstrating resilience, and operating in the "grey".


  • Ability to influence Product & Group Insurance Leadership on the development of the operational plans and product roadmaps.


  • Strong results-orientation, with the desire and drive required to accomplish stated objectives.


  • Strong external focus with the ability to navigate internal teams and process to deliver on objectives and goals.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

The salary range for this role is from $195,100.00 to $263,900.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
