SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease of patients of all ages. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
May verify / validate patient results unsupervised.Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology.Performs blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.Assesses data regarding the patients procedure based on the patients age and condition.Provides and instructs patients; and/or their families, or significant others with information appropriate for age and learning abilities.Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.Greets customers promptly and courteously.Prepares laboratory specimens for transfer to referral facility.Performs phlebotomy and obtains specimens for laboratory testing.Assist in data collection for Quality Assurance/Improvement.Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedures.Draws blood from patient's finger, heel, toe, vein, or artery, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.Responsible for rotation of departmental call duties.Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.Trains and supervises students.Reviews and complies with Laboratory Standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLIITES
Directly reports to the Director of Laboratory.

While performing the duties of this job, employees the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Scientist.
COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
M.T. (A.S.C.P.) preferred.
