Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems Santa Ana, CA office seeks a full time Senior Highway/Drainage Engineer / PM to join our growing office of roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal designers. This position includes management of projects and Caltrans task orders, business development pursuits, the review of working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, specifications and work products for compliance with industry standards. Assistance and review of the preparation of Caltrans drainage please, reports, SWDRs, specifications, NSSPs, BEES and documents for the AADD process. Candidates should have experience managing and mentoring junior staff. The candidate should have a minimum of 20 years of experience working with key highway improvement agencies including but not limited to Caltrans District 7, 12, 8 and 11, LA Metro, OCTA, SBCTA, RCTC and local counties and cities are recommended.  The PM/engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.This role plans, designs and directs PSR, PA&ED, and final design package components for roadway and highway projects for states and municipalities; and federal government projects.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Reviews, prepares or directs; review and modification highway final design construction documents, reports, specifications, plans, for complex projects.

  • Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments and resolving engineering design problems.

  • Evaluates and identifies design changes, specification needs, and construction costs.

  • Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.

  • Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.

  • Assist with business development for proposals to clients.

  • Plans and executes project meetings with staff and clients.  May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as technical challenges, scope changes or schedule acceleration.

  • Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.

  • Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.

  • Maintain professional, technical, and supervisory skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Direct supervisory role may be required. Mentorship and guidance on the design process for highway projects for junior staff will be required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical) from an ABET accredited university.

  • 20+ years of experience working with key highway improvement agencies including but not limited to Caltrans District 7, 12, 8 and 11, LA Metro, OCTA, SBCTA, RCTC and local counties and cities. 

  • Proven experience in coordinating with above agencies for the delivery of highway improvement projects.

  • A California Professional Engineer license.

  • Experience with MicroStation, HEC-RAS, CulvertMaster, StormCAD, WSPG, HydraFlow, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems.

  • Demonstrated track record of providing Project Management and senior engineering design services for the successful completion of projects.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or NY City, TranSystems is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $250,000-$310,000.
