Facility: Paulding Hospital

LICENSED PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGIST

Hiram, Georgia

Wellstar's Behavioral Health Service Line is pleased to announce a new position for a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist. This clinician will support Wellstar's expanded behavioral health services for the child and adolescent population in east Paulding County. The clinician will work with a multi-disciplinary team of child/adolescent psychiatrists, a pediatric neuropsychologist, and masters-level therapists - with an aim of helping to develop a comprehensive pediatric behavioral health program that meets the needs of the Paulding community. The pediatric psychologist will provide psychological testing and evidence-based therapy and intervention services to support the needs of children, adolescents, and their families.

The Wellstar Paulding submarket is a rapidly growing area in greater Atlanta. This position will be co-located within a large pediatric clinic, which is staffed by pediatricians and pediatric advanced practitioners. Within the clinic is a new pediatric behavioral health pod, which will allow for on-site sub-specialty services, while also allowing for consistent consultation between the behavioral health and medical teams.

Clinical Responsibilities: The pediatric psychologist we are seeking will need a diverse skill set, with refined diagnostic and intervention skills. (S)He will function as a clinician with up to 50% time allocated to the provision of testing and intervention services for individuals up to the age of 18. (S)He should be equipped to conduct brief (and when necessary more comprehensive) psychological testing, using a variety of methods including tests of intelligence, child development, cognition (e.g., attention, executive functioning), personality (objective and projective), and social/emotional functioning. (S)He will write psychological reports and document using Wellstar's electronic medical record (i.e. Epic). In addition to testing, (s)he will allocate 50% time to the provision of brief interventions using evidence-based methods. (S)He should have the ability to apply cognitive-behavioral (CBT), parent-child interactive therapy, and other treatments to a heterogenous population. (S)He will consult regularly with Wellstar child/adolescent psychiatrists, therapists, pediatricians, etc. In addition to testing and therapy services, the psychologist might provide intermittent clinical supervision, conduct staff trainings, and serve on committees under the Behavioral Health and Pediatric Service Line structures.

Skills Needed: The ideal candidate will possess advanced assessment skills in the area of clinical and child/adolescent psychology. (S)He should be familiar with a variety of psychological tests and methods, and possess the ability to integrate complex quantitative and qualitative information to formulate diagnostic conceptualizations. (S)He should be an astute observer of human behavior and a strong communicator - both verbally and in writing.

The psychologist should be comfortable working with patients with moderate acuity psychiatric and developmental conditions. (S)He should possess experience with an array of conditions including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum conditions, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, somatic symptom disorders, school-avoidance, etc. (S)He should have advanced knowledge of risk factors related to suicidality and demonstrate sound professional judgment to determine when inpatient and/or involuntary treatment may be needed. Further, the pediatric psychologist should be a strong interventionist - able to apply evidence-based treatments to a heterogenous group of patients. (S)He should have the ability to apply his/her understanding of human motivations to facilitate meaningful behavioral changes.

The psychologist should exhibit professionalism and have the ability to assert him/herself effectively as a member of the Medical Staff. Although there is a strong cohort of clinical psychologists/neuropsychologists at Wellstar, this is the first pediatric psychologist position. As such, the clinician should possess a strong commitment to demonstrating and applying the contributions of psychology as a discipline. (S)He should possess the commitment and ability to cultivate strong relationships with medical colleagues and others - helping to foster teamwork and an emotionally-healthy work environment. While functioning with high autonomy, (s)he should possess a strong grasp of professional ethics, seeking consultation from other members of the Wellstar Psychological Services department as needed.

Required Minimum Education & Experience: (1) a doctorate degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), (2) completion of an APA-accredited internship, (3) completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in an area of Clinical Psychology, (4) licensure or license-eligibility as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia, and (5) advanced training on internship/fellowship working with a child/adolescent population. Whereas active board-certification (ABPP) is not required at the time of hire, the clinician should possess board-certification in Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychology within 36 months of the date of hire.

Application Process: Apply through . Please also forward a copy of CV and cover letter to provider recruiter, Beth Guerin, at .
