Position for enthusiastic veterinary assistant or registeredveterinary technician with a passion for emergency and critical care.Successful candidates will provide clinical assistance to professional staffand a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary TeachingHospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate inone-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongsideveterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standardof care. Preference for applicants that have an associate degree in veterinarytechnology (or equivalent) and licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician(RVT) or eligible for RVT license in Oklahoma.


This is a full-timeposition with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available fornon-traditional shifts. The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teachinghospital providing 24-hour care for all domestic and selected exotic andwildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year andhospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our Critical Care Unit is astate-of-the-art facility and is staffed with capable, competent technicians.Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound,endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulseoximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure andcentral venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac® suction units, and ventilator therapy.Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with small animal specialists,as well as a supportive group of interns and residents.

Required Qualifications


High school/GED and two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in VeterinaryTechnology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two yearsrelated experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or relatedarea; or DVM degree or equivalent.


Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages. Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.



Preferred Qualifications:


Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. 


Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).
