JOB DESCRIPTION



Wood is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Life Sciences (Biotechnology / Pharmaceuticals) team to develop life-changing and in many cases, life-saving solutions for our clients.


While this position will report into either our Plymouth Meeting, PA location or Morrisville, NC location, we have a hybrid work environment.


On a global scale, Wood serves the Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Federal, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Mining, and Power Industries. Our Philadelphia office has become the Center of Excellence for our global Life Sciences network, providing full-service pharmaceutical and biotechnology engineering, design, procurement, and project management services.

We're looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual with the ability to execute all phases of project design. Project sizes will vary and will include both existing building improvements and new construction. Excellent oral and written communication skills, decision making capabilities, problem resolution skills, and a sense of initiative are important for this industry.



RESPONSIBILITIES



Responsibilities:

  • Work with an electrical design team through all phases of design: feasibility & concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction documentation
  • Ability to serve as lead electrical engineer (completely independently or leading junior staff) on specific smaller projects & deliverables
  • Develop electrical design documents for biotech and pharmaceutical facilities, including:


    • Incoming electrical services and coordination with local power companies
    • Generate electrical single-line diagrams and panel schedules
    • Emergency and back-up power distribution systems (Generators, UPS, etc.)
    • Electrical panel layouts and wiring diagrams
    • Power and lighting plans, calculations, and schedules
    • Electrical load studies, motor calculations, voltage drop, etc.
    • Electrical equipment layouts
    • Grounding and lightning protection plans and details
    • Telecommunications plans
    • Fire alarm plans
    • Security and door interlock plans and details
    • Equipment cutsheet lookup for connection & load verification
    • Energy code compliance paperwork
    • Electrical hazardous classification diagrams



  • Work is reviewed for adequacy and accuracy by a Senior Electrical Engineer
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines in 2-D and 3-D environments for cable tray routing, lighting fixture layouts, panel locations, and power to end users
  • Prepare specifications for electrical equipment
  • Prepare electrical design criteria and basis of design documents
  • Perform field surveys and evaluate condition of existing equipment and systems
  • Review submittals and shop drawings
  • Assist in the generation and maintenance of Instrument Index and Input/Output (I/O) lists based on review of P&ID's
  • Response to construction Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Develop final construction documents including plans, specifications, schedules, and details
  • Collaborate with Construction Management Team to mitigate roadblocks during all project phases
  • Assist in review of cost estimates both internally and from external contractor bids
  • Establish effective working relations with colleagues, clients and officials
  • Attend virtual and/or in-person client meetings
  • Assist in development of electrical design standards, details, and templates
  • Assist in on-boarding and training of entry-level & junior electrical staff
  • Be motivated and constantly willing to learn and grow





QUALIFICATIONS



Qualifications

  • Must possess ability to multitask with strong communication skills
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum experience of 5+ years
  • Knowledgeable in applicable design codes & standards (NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE, IECC, Title 24, UL, etc.)
  • Amenable to Hybrid Working Office Environment (employee can select days working from home vs from the office)
  • Required computer skills: MS Office, AutoCAD, and Revit 3D modeling
  • Preferred computer skills: SKM Power Tools, Visual Lighting Software
  • Flexibility to travel (max of 10% annually)
  • Knowledge of cGMP facility design preferred
  • Willing to cross-sector train and assist in electrical design with other offices
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
